The Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia

Annapolis Valley in the Winter

Posted On: Fri. Jan. 2 2009

The Annapolis Valley is known for its beauty and activities in the spring, summer, and especially autumn. But winter in the Valley has much to offer as well.

For skiing or snowboard enthusiasts, Windsor has Martock which offers some of the best skiing in Atlantic Canada. Their 600 foot mountain is open from early December to late March.

Heading to the rink is a tradition for many families. But even if you aren’t a hockey family, the open skate times which many of the Annapolis Valley Arenas offer make a great way to break up a winter’s day.

The Sheffield Mills Eagle Watch grows in popularity each year.  The main attraction is the hundreds of Bald Eagles which can be seen around the Sheffield Mills area, near Canning. The community has turned the last two weekends of January into a festival. They have number of events and activities at the Sheffield Mills community hall.

Another fun attraction for winter fun is New Ross Farm. Although it is not in the Valley it is only a short drive and is a great afternoon for the whole family. They are open Wednesday to Sunday in the winter and offer things such as sleigh rides on the weekends. They also have demonstrations, such as snow shoe, and toboggan making.
